Squatters encroach upon Trust land

People under the protection of various political parties have constructed around 100 huts on a plot of land belonging to Ram Sita Laxman Hanuman Trust at Agauli in the district.

They have already encroached upon around 2.8 hectares of trust’s land and are still constructing more shanties. The trust owns around 48 hectares of land in the area.

The UCPN (Maoist) and the CPN-Maoist reportedly captured the land and distributed to their supporters in the name of landless squatters .

According to local residents, the Maoists seized the land and distributed it among its supports as the trust did not bother to stop such activities. However, Ashok Lamsal, area in-charge of the CPN-Maoist, claimed that the UCPN (Maoist) and the CPN-UML seized the land. Chief District Officer Keshav Raj Ghimire said the squatters would be evicted if the land if the trust asked for the same.
