Israel Navy intercepts Gaza-bound Iranian rocket ship near Sudan Port

Special operation, directly overseen by IDF chief Gantz, takes place in the Red Sea 1500 kilometers away from Israeli shores; ship carrying Iranian M-302 rockets being towed by the Navy to Eilat.

The Israel Navy intercepted an Iranian arms smuggling ship carrying dozens of long-range rockets to Gaza near Port Sudan early on Wednesday.

The special operation, directly overseen by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz, took place in the Red Sea 1500 kilometers away from Israeli shores.

Missile ships and Navy commandos raided a ship carrying M-302 rockets.

The crew is in Israeli custody, and the ship is being towed by the Navy to Eilat, where it is expected to arrive in the coming days.

The rockets originated in Syria, according to military intelligence assessments.
