Nepal face defeat One Day ICC Cricket Quilifier

Kathmandu. Nepal faced defeat in the final match played today under the group selection round of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier held at Christ Church, New Zealand.

Nepal faced defeat to Canada by 12 runs. Canada who elected to bat first after winning the toss made 255 runs in the allotted 41 overs at the loss of nine wickets.

Nepali_Cricket_teamNepal, following a victory target of 256 runs, made 243 runs at the loss of eight wickets. The 50 overs play was reduced to 41 overs owing to rain.

The Nepali batting order save vice-skipper Gyanendra  Malla could not give in their best. Malla had made the highest 86 runs.

Similarly, Pradip Airi made 26 runs and Basanta Regmi was not-out at 25 runs. Likewise, skipper Paras Khadka , Binod Bhandari and Sharad Bheswakar each contributed 17 runs while Shakti Gauchan and Prithu Baskota made 15 runs each.

In the bowling department, Sompal Kami of Nepal took three wickets, Basanta Regmi two, and Shakti Gauchan and Sagar Pun one wicket each.

This is Nepal’s fourth defeat in a row. In the first match it played against the UAE, Nepal were defeated by a huge margin of 102 runs. In the second match against Scotland, Nepal faced a defeat of 92 runs and in the third match against Hong Kong it faced a 10-wicket defeat.

With the latest defeat today, Nepal have not only lost the chance to play the ICC One Day Cricket World Cup to be held in 2015 but also their dream of getting the recognition of One Day Cricket playing nation shattered. RSS
